He was very helpful nonetheless and there was no shortage of politeness from everyone I encountered. I then tried to order a martini with blue cheese stuffed olives but the bartender said they didn't have blue cheese stuffed olives. I opted to go to the restaurant to try to get the salad as featured on the menu and sat at the bar but the bartender also said he's never seen the salad served with steak. When I called in for room service on Thursday evening I was delighted to see the same salad on the menu but when the room service attendant took my call he said they don't sell the salad with the option to add steak. The room was very spacious but it did face a gas station that received deliveries around the clock so it wasn't quiet but that is not the hotels fault. The front desk was very helpful and accommodated an early check in at about 3pm in a beautiful corner room. I had the delicious Black Garlick Caesar salad with steak and a dirty martini with blue cheese stuffed olives. I arrived early and had lunch with a colleague at Finch & Fork since my room was understandably not ready. I stayed at the Kimpton Canary on July 13th for 2 nights. For a leading hotel of the world a little polish and elbow grease is needed to be truly worthy of the title. I think perhaps if we’d have stayed one night, we’d have been more ‘wowwed’ and the cracks wouldn’t have been so apparent. We didn’t manage to book the shuttle but ubers were easy to come by. We enjoyed dinner in the restaurant on our first night but the menu didn’t offer enough choice for us to dine there again.

MAR MONTE HOTEL IN THE UNBOUND COLLECTION BY HYATT PLUS
The pool area is stunning visually, however, don’t take a bed near the pool room unless you want all the staff gossip, though it was entertaining! Plus it took over half an hour for a glass of fizz to arrive and when it did, it was luke warm - just not what you’d expect. Day one was spot on, day two we had to ask for missing items, day three took over an hour and on our final morning it was twenty minutes before we managed to even get a drink let alone someone to take an order. However, it was mainly service that was disappointing for such a high end hotel. Highlights were definitely the view, setting above Santa Barbara, the relaxed atmosphere and terrace for meals. Our room was stunning though and worth the wait.

However, we were not contacted after check in time and had to ask twice and so check in was later than expected.

We arrived a little earlier than guaranteed check in time and enjoyed relaxing in the bar and on the chairs overlooking Santa Barbara. However we were left a little disappointed with a few aspects during our stay. Good thing I had a spare key so I can do it myself though it was an inconvenience that I had to walk over and grab my actual keys from valet so I can get the hell out of there. We were really looking forward to experiencing a 4 night stay here and were sure it would be the highlight of our 3 week trip across the States to celebrate our anniversary. we were on the complete opposite side of the hotel and had to walk all of our luggage to my truck in valet because no one answers the call to come and pick up your luggage. No one came, asked again and they turned off the bar lights and closed for the evening. We took our wine to the hot tub and fireplace and asked to have the fireplace lit. $55 dollar wine with fees came to about $90 dollars. The restaurant bar was OK however, they charged me 20% gratuity plus fees to open a bottle of wine for us. Then you are not allowed to self park forcing us to pay for valet. The room they us in was a dump so naturally I paid the $60 dollar fee. They charged me another $60 for an ocean view once on site and said this happens all the time.

To begin, this was not an ocean view premium suite.
